Fourth President of the United States and American Founding Father JAMES MADISON scarce hand-signed cut section of a free frank envelope. Madison signed along the upper right section writing "Free" and adding a handsome full signature "James Madison". An excellent autograph from the same hand that drafted the U. Annotated date in the upper left suggests the envelope was mailed around "Feby 19".
The envelope is addressed to Benjamin H. Rand who had given Madison a copy of Washington's farewell address. This appears to be the free frank from the letter sent by Madison 15 February 1822 to Rand in which Madison accepts the copies of Washington's farewell address. This autograph has been certified authentic and slabbed by the industry experts at PSA/DNA. Item is in good condition for its 200+ years of age.
